Expense Reimbursement When Traveling for Business
Expense Reimbursement When Traveling for BusinessExpense Reimbursement When Traveling for BusinessExpense reimbursement is a method for paying employees back when they spend their own money while working on companytime. These expenses generally occur when an employee is traveling for business. Travel expenses can include lodging, flights, ground transportation, tips to bellhops, meals, and other incidental expenses an employee might experience while traveling for work. Other business expenses can include such items as taking clients or prospective employees to lunch or dinner, purchasing necessary books or other educational materials that the employer covers, or driving expenses. Types of expenses that an organization will reimburse are found in the companys business travel, entertainment, and general reimbursable expenses policies in the employee handbook. In some cases, expenses such as dry cleaning and gym membership on extended trips are covered. While client entertainment on bus iness trips is a common reimbursable expense, most companies set spending limits on food and entertainment. How Employees Pay for Expenses Increasingly, businesses are entrusting low- to mid-level employees who travelfrequently with corporate leistungspunkt cards. Instead of paying for expenses with their own money, employees charge all but incidentals and tips to the company credit card. This is a convenient approach to expense reimbursement for the employee because the credit card bills document the exact expenses without the employee having to save receipts and fill out travel expense reports. Abedrngnisher method for paying employees for business travel expenses is with aper diem. Per diem is the pre-determined daily allowance paid to employees for expenses incurred while traveling for business. These expenses could be for lodging, meals, tips, taxi, and other ground transportation fees. Filling Out the Expense Report In both the case of the company credit card use and p aying cash, employees will likely have to fill out an expense reimbursement report upon returning from the trip. With the company credit card, they will have to explain less than obvious charges that appear on the credit card bill (such as a late-night meal). They will also charge the company for the additional incidentals they paid for with their own money or credit card. When an employee pays cash, he or she will need to list, and occasionally justify, each expense for which reimbursement is requested. Most companies set a date by which expense reimbursement reports must be submitted and all expenses are reviewed by accounting as are the statements from the credit card company. Any unjustified expense, or those excluded by company policy, is not reimbursed - causing problems for the employee. Unusual Situations Lets say a sales rep takes a pet with them on a trip and charges a hotel pet fee to the company credit card, claiming the hotel would not separate out the fee and they planned to reimburse the company. Is that a misuse of company funds? It seems so. Whether in writing or not, its pretty clear, the use of a company credit card is to be used for company expenses only. In some instances, personal use of a corporation can result in termination. However, heres what you need to consider. Did the employee go to accounting and explain the problem that the hotel was unable to separate out the pet charges? Or, was the employee caught by a careful review of her expenses in accounting? Another consideration is, have other employees beenreimbursed by the company in the past for similar expenses? If so, disciplinary action is not in order. However, if company policy clearly states a specific expense is not allowed, and the employee is caught (not forthright) then HR should take some kind of severe disciplinary action. Not every situation is clear-cut. Sometimes you have to inquire and do a bit of digging around before taking action.

The cities where working women see the most success
The cities where working women see the most successThe cities where working women see the most successMore women are working than ever before. In 1948 only 32% ofwomenwere in the labor force nationwide and as of February 2018, that number is now at 57%. However, there are certain cities that are home to mora successful women than others. SmartAsset looked at100 cities in the U.S. and based on their percentages of full-time working women with annual incomes of $75,000 and up, women business owners and women over 25 with bachelors degrees and ranked them. They also factored in housing costs as a percent of full-time working womens earnings, median earnings for women working full-time and the unemployment rate of women aged 25 to 64.Virginia FTWSo where are the most successful ladies found? In and around our nations capitalThree cities within the D.C. metro area scored well. Arlington, VA took the top spot and Alexandria, VA and Washington, D.C. were also in the Top 10. Arlington welche s found to have the highest paid women in the country, according to Census Bureau data, with the median full-time working woman there earning over $80,200 per year. Another reason why this city is such a hub for prosperous women is they make up 38.6% of people working in their own private businesses and only 35% of women there have just a bachelors degree. The only area they didnt get a top 10 ranking was for housing cost as a percent of income. Alexandria, VA wasnt far behind with the average woman making $67,000 annually there. And in D.C. more and more women are starting their own businesses as women make up almost 40% of business owners. This data falls in line with another recent SmartAsset listthat ranked women who work in technology and D.C. was found to be the No.1 city for women when it came to salary and the highest number of women working in this industry.Interestingly no single region of the country dominated this list. Instead the Mid-Atlantic, the West Coast, the South, the Southwest and the Midwest are all represented in the top 10. Check out the full list below.

He has been the lead on projects for major clients at the systems integrator where he works as global technology manager/chief architect he has managed on-site and offshore information-technology teams and he has increased the bottom-line profit on many projects.Unfortunately, his resume obscured or omitted those achievements. That language barrier blocked him from moving to a position as vice president of technology chief technology officer or chief information officer.Russells resume suffered from a condition professional resume writers call death by bullets, said J.M. Auron, a certified professional resume writer who works with Ladders resume -writing service and helped Russell refurbish his document. The goal of the transformation to show prospective employers his value in a role of greater responsibility.Russell, of Lillian, Ala., had a resume that didnt focus on his leadership, achievements or impact on the business. It welches lost in lists that detailed his many qualifications and the projects he managed. A sample of bullets on Russells original resume readExperienced leader and technical professional who uses sound technical expertise in building successful business integrations.Multi-talented professional with extensive experience planning, architecting, and implementing enterprise systems.(He) cherry-picked his achievements (in the original resume), Auron said. In this case, the resume writer knew he had to dig deeper. He had to get to know Russell to uncover what he did differently from other senior staffers in comparable positions.Auron eliminated many of the bullets, including the bulleted summary that introdu ced the resume reader to Russell. Instead, the new version opens with a narrativeMultifaceted senior IT leader with more than a decade of experience in application design and implementation for the enterprise. Acknowledged thought leader, able to effectively integrate IT realities with strategic business goals. Customer-focused professional who has consistently increased profit and grown bottom-line.Clearing up the confusionThe original resume was so unclear that most readers thought he had held dozens of jobs, despite the fact that hed been with the same company since 2002. Auron fixed the appearance of multiple jobs - a lack of commitment recruiters dismiss as job hopping- by cleaning up Russells job descriptions and making it clear which jobs were just new projects at the same employer, which were promotions and which were new jobs at new companies. The result is a resume loaded with technical details of all the systems and software technology he is familiar with it employs industry-specific terms like managing end-state and beta testing, while making it clear that Russell is a manager and leader.I truly enjoy working with customers and leading engineering teams, Russell said. Liberal Arts and Your Career
Liberal Arts and Your CareerLiberal Arts and Your CareerThere arent good jobs out that there- none that come easily to mind at least- that do leid require the ability to learn, think and communicate. Can you come up with any? These abilities and other extremely valuable ones can be acquired through liberal arts education. Liberal Arts The liberal arts refer to a wide sortiment of academic subjects that can prepare students for a variety of occupations. College majors that fall under this category do not typically train students for any one career. It includes broad areas of study such as the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics. The humanities include subjects such as English, drama, music, dance, and language. Sociology, psychology, geography, and economics are all social sciences. Biology and physics are two examples of natural sciences. You can major or minor in a liberal arts subject or you can supplement your education in another area with classes i n this area. If you choose a career-specific major, for example, accounting or physical therapy, your college will very likely require you to take liberal arts courses. A Great Source for Soft Skills Regardless of the career you choose, certain qualities called soft skills will make you invaluable to employers and are vital to your success in many occupations including those in technology. They include critical thinking, problem-solving,creativity and innovation, research skills, writing and oral communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to learn. You may already have some of these abilities, but you must find a way to acquire those you dont. The best way to do that is through a liberal arts education. Regardless of your major, make room in your schedule forclasses in literature, history, sociology, and psychology. Liberal Arts Education Comes Under Fire Its hard to imagine anyone finding fault with studying the liberal arts- after all, it can provide you with soft sk ills that are crucial to your career success. There are people, however, who would like to do away with this area of study in favor of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education. They cite statistics that show American students are far behind their counterparts in other countries where these subjects are emphasized to the exclusion of the liberal arts. They believe taking classes in the liberal arts is a waste of time ... and dont even get them started on choosing it as a college major. They predict anyone who chooses to do that will have a dismal future. Wait just a minute others argue. Without liberal arts education what will happen to creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship?, they ask. The US has always been a country of entrepreneurs and innovators and many believe that liberal arts education is responsible for that. While American students may not be as skilled in science and technology, they are far ahead in creativity. Journalist Fareed Zakaria, in an ar ticle titled Why Americas Obsession With STEM Education is Dangerous(The Washington Post, March 26, 2015), says that to innovate we must have an understanding of how people and societies work, what they need and want. This awareness, according to Zakaria, comes from a broad general education, rather than a narrowly focused one. People who espouse the importance of STEM education to the exclusion of the liberal arts fail to recognize some very important realities. First among them is that not everyone is cut out for a STEM career. We must recognize that we are all different from one another. Each of us has different values, interests, strengths, and personalities that make certain occupations more suitable for us than others. In addition we, as a society, need people to work in other occupations. Where will we be without museum curators and archaeologists? Secondly, there are careers that require a liberal arts background. Finally, and probably the most compelling argumentis that wi thout taking at least some liberal arts classes, many people will fail to acquire the soft skills they need to succeed in almost every job you could possibly think of. Majoring in Liberal Arts There is room for both STEM and liberal arts in the education of our future workforce. Students should be exposed to both areas of study, but we must also realize that there is a suitable career for everyone. You may find that a career that emphasizes the liberal arts is a better fit for you while your best friend may find success in a STEM occupation. If you want to pursue a career that requires you to get an undergraduate degree in one of the subjects that fall under this category, you should certainly do that. If you will ultimately need a masters degree for your chosen occupation, you may have some flexibility regarding your undergraduate major. Choosing a liberal arts major will allow you to not only amass the soft skills that will follow you through graduate school and your future ca reer, but it will also expose you to knowledge in a wide range of subjects.
